QUESTION 1
When reviewing the actual protection output of N+4/2, what does the number “4” represent?

A. FEC stripe units per stripe
B. Hard drives used per stripe
C. Volume stripes per file system
D. FEC stripe units per file system

Answer: A

Explanation:
It’s OneFS FEC protection nomenclature for our “hybrid” protection polices. More generally, it’s written as: N+M/b
where “N” is the number of data stripe units in a stripe, “M” is the number of FEC stripe units in a stripe, and “b” is the number of stripe units in a stripe which are allowed to reside on the same node.

QUESTION 2
What impact can obsolete drive firmware have on an Isilon cluster?

A. Reduces administrative overhead and increases performance.
B. Affects redundancy settings and FEC coding.
C. Affects cluster performance or hardware reliability.
D. Increases runtime and cluster performance.

Answer: C

QUESTION 3
What defines FEC link aggregation mode?

A. Switches to the next interface when the primary interface becomes unavailable.
B. Balances outgoing traffic based on hashed protocol header information that includes source and destination addresses, and VLAN tag.
C. Balances outgoing traffic based on hashed protocol header information that includes source and destination addresses.
D. Balances outbound traffic across all active ports in the aggregated link.

Answer: B

QUESTION 4
In Isilon OneFS, what is a characteristic of CoW with snapshots?

A. Used for small changes, inodes, and directories.
B. Avoids the double write penalty.
C. Increases file fragmentation.
D. Used for more substantial changes such as deletes.

Answer: A
Explanation:
With copy on write, as the name suggests, a new write to HEAD results in the old blocks being copied out to the snapshot version first.
Although this incurs a double write penalty, it results in less fragmentation of the HEAD file, which is better for cache prefetch, etc.
Typically, CoW is most prevalent in OneFS and is primarily used for small changes, inodes and directories.

QUESTION 5
Which OneFS networking option enables Isilon for DNS multitenant functionality?

A. Groupnet
B. Access zone
C. Pool
D. Subnet

Answer: A

DES-6121 VxBlock Systems Core Specialist Exam for Implementation Engineers

Introducing Implementation Engineer (EMCIE) VxBlock Systems Core Specialist-level certification!
The Dell EMC Proven Professional certification program is introducing a new role-based VxBlock Systems Core Specialist-level exam for the Implementation Engineers (EMCIE) track on July 28, 2017:

DES-6121 VxBlock Systems Core Specialist Exam for Implementation Engineers
This new VxBlock based Core exam is being introduced for the Implementation Engineer track under the Dell EMC Proven Professional certification program and will replace the VCE Certified Professional Converged Infrastructure track based VCE Vblock Systems Deployment and Implementation – Core Exam (210-010).

Note: The current 210-010 VCE Vblock Systems Deployment and Implementation – Core Exam will retire on July 28, 2017.

This document will provide you with information on:
Launch of the new exam, certification and the related courses aligned to the Implementation Engineer, VxBlock Systems Core Specialist certification credential.
Retirement of the VCE Certified Professional (210-010) Core exam
How these changes impact you if you are currently taking / planning to take the VCE Core exam (210-010).

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this program update, you can always find us in the EMC Proven Advisor: Ask Us area of the EMC Proven Professional Community.

1. What is the difference between the new Dell EMC Proven Professional Implementation Engineer VxBlock Systems Core Specialist credential and the VCE Certified Converged Infrastructure Implementation Engineer credentials?

The VCE Certification program had 4 Implementation Engineer credentials covering Vblock: Compute, Virtualization, Storage and Networking. The new Dell EMC Proven Professional (DEPP) version has one Implementation Engineer Specialist level credential covering the CORE implementation of VxBlock.

Also, passing the new VxBlock Systems Core exam (DES-6121) under the Dell EMC Proven Professional Program will earn the candidate a credential – Implementation Engineer, VxBlock Systems Core Specialist Version 1.0 (EMCIE) – under the Dell EMC Proven Professional program, provided the candidate holds the VCE Converged Infrastructure Associate (VCE-CIA) credential earned after April 14, 2017.

2. Will my current VCE Certified Implementation Engineer certification(s) still be recognized?
Yes, they will still be recognized until they expire. Expiration is 2 years from the date the credential was achieved.

3. Will additional Dell EMC Proven Professional Implementation Engineer certifications be released covering VxBlock Compute, Virtualization, Storage and Networking?
Certifications are under consideration for future development covering the Future Converged Infrastructure and Hyper Converged Infrastructure.

4. Will my VCE Converged Infrastructure (VCE-CIA) credential be a valid Associate-level pre-requisite for the new Dell EMC Proven Professional Implementation Engineer Specialist credential?
Yes, if the VCE Associate credential was achieved after April 14, 2017 based on the updated content.

5. What training is recommended to prepare for the new Implementation Engineer exam? Are any additional resources required?
The recommended training details are listed in the exam description. Please refer to the same prior to exam preparation.

6. What if I am already pursuing a VCE Certified Converged Infrastructure Implementation Engineer credential (Compute, Networking, Storage or Virtualization)?
If you are implementing Vblock solutions, choose to continue pursuing the credential and have already completed the VCE Core (210-010) exam then you can take the appropriate specialty exam (Compute, Storage, Virtualization or Networking) and earn the VCE CI Implementation Engineer credential

If you are implementing Vblock solutions, choose to continue pursuing the credential and have not completed the VCE Core (210-010) exam but you have already completed one or more of the VCE CI Specialist (Compute, Storage, Virtualization or Networking) exams then complete the VCE Core (210-010) exam before it’s retirement on 7/28/17 to earn the respective VCE CI Implementation Engineer Specialist credential(s)
If you are implementing VxBlock solutions and choose to pursue the new Dell EMC Proven Professional Implementation Engineer, VxBlock Systems Core Specialist credential then you can take the Dell EMC Proven Professional program based DES-6121 VxBlock Systems Core Specialist exam to earn the VxBlock based Core Specialist credential

7. Will the new Dell EMC Implementation Engineer Specialist credential expire after 2 years?
No it will not expire. Dell EMC Proven Professional Specialist credentials do not expire; they are versioned.

8. What is credential versioning?
Over time, the skill set for a role-based certification evolves as underlying products, technologies, best practices change. Role-based specialist and expert certifications have a long shelf life. Versioning provides the marketplace with an indication of currency of a candidates’ certification i.e. differentiate a certification based on products, technologies, best practices covered by each version.

9. Will the new Dell EMC Implementation Engineer Specialist lose its validity if my qualifying VCE Associate credential expires?
No, it will not. A valid VCE Associate credential is only expected at the time of earning the Specialist credential under the Dell EMC Proven Professional program.

10. Will I still get a VCE Certified Professional shirt when achieving my new Dell EMC Proven Professional credential?
No, if this is your first Dell EMC Proven Professional Specialist credential certification, or the first one you have achieved since February 1, 2017, you will receive a Dell EMC Proven Professional Specialist shirt.

11. What are the plans for migrating the VCE Design Engineer and VCE Administration Engineer credentials to the Dell EMC Proven Professional program?
They are likely to be migrated by FY2019.
